In 2012, Econocom was chosen by the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to finance and manage the processing of the entire Acer technology estate at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. Following the event, Econocom reassigned this ‘ready-to-use’ fleet to 650 schools, colleges and charities, thereby contributing to the development and promotion of digital tools in education.
Econocom solution
- A bespoke funding solution for digital equipment for the 2012 summer Olympics, combined with a logistics solution to re-deploy the equipment across the country
- Equipment re-assigned to the E-learning Foundation* and to schools all over the UK, thereby ensuring: - access to digital tools, irrespective of students’ social background - digitalisation of classrooms (laptops, smartboards, HD projectors, HD cameras, etc.) - incorporation of digital tools into teaching methods to increase interactivity and collaboration between teachers and students
- The schools and colleges that benefited from the programme are still enjoying its advantages today. The savings offered have enabled them to invest in core educational activities (recruitment, training and new teaching approaches).
*E-Learning foundation: an independent registered UK charity dedicated to ensuring access to digital education for all
